Beautiful, tailored timber windows and doors for a Victorian home in Stoke Newington
Working in collaboration with Yard Architects, Sashed was appointed to deliver a complete suite of bespoke timber windows and doors for a thoughtfully reimagined end-of-terrace Victorian property on Graham Road, Stoke Newington. The project combined careful restoration with contemporary enhancements, blending heritage charm with refined architectural detailing.
This was a technically detailed commission involving varied finishes, materials, and installation scenarios – including sliding sash windows with arched heads, restored shutters, and natural oak framing – all precisely specified by the architects to support the overall design narrative.
Refined sash windows for the Victorian front elevation
At the front of the property, we manufactured and installed four bespoke timber sash windows, finished externally in Farrow & Ball Railings (No. 31) – a richly pigmented off-black chosen to complement the Victorian façade.
Two of the ground/lower-ground windows feature swept (arched) heads, following the original brick detailing. Crafted from Meranti hardwood, these sash windows deliver timeless style with modern performance, seamlessly preserving the building’s street-facing heritage.
Contemporary oak joinery to the rear elevation
To the rear of the home – part of a new extension designed by Yard Architects – we installed two additional sash windows, this time with dual finishes. The interiors are painted in Farrow & Ball Card Room Green (No. 79), a sophisticated, muted green that contrasts elegantly with the clean white exterior finish.
In the living room, we integrated a new sash window into the existing shutter configuration – a highly intricate task that required the careful removal and restoration of the original shutters. Once stripped and restored, the shutters were reinstalled in front of the newly fitted window, maintaining their historic charm while improving functionality and performance.
The bathroom features a striking oak-framed picture window at the end of the bath. Designed to frame views of the garden’s trees, the oak was finished in a clear lacquer, introducing warmth to the space.
A bespoke oak sliding patio door completes the rear scheme, also finished in a clear lacquer to match the interior palette and natural materials used throughout the extension. This door brings in generous light while establishing a soft transition between the new living space and the garden.

All ironmongery on the project was supplied in a matt black finish, offering a consistent and understated modern touch across the joinery.
