Perched on Longstone Avenue with views over Roundwood Park, Sashed was commissioned to craft a bespoke timber front door for Claire; a design‑savvy client with a prominent online following.
Restoring heritage glass to a period home
The project focused on preserving the home’s original stained glass; a colourful period feature Claire wanted to keep. Sashed carefully removed the panels from both the existing door and windows and entrusted them to stained-glass artist Zoe Angle of Angle Glass, who refurbished and resized them for seamless integration into the joinery. To complement the design, Zoe also crafted new bespoke sidelights for the doors that echo and extend the stained-glass motifs, resulting in a cohesive and vibrant entrance.
Crafted timber, bold colour, and heritage detailing
- Timber: The new door was constructed from Meranti, selected for its beautiful warm grain
- Finish: Frame painted in Farrow & Ball White Tie No. 2002 and the door painted Farrow & Ball Kittywake No.307
- Ironmongery: Polished brass fittings from Traditional Window Fittings lend a classic, high-quality finish with a nod to tradition.
A new door with period charm
This front-door project exemplifies Sashed’s commitment to marrying fine craft, heritage preservation, and bespoke design. The result is a unique, thoughtfully detailed entrance that reads as both original and timeless.
Heritage casement bay with stained glass top-lights
The adjacent casement bay was also rebuilt with new angled casements with proud framing; a subtly projecting surround that gives the elevation added presence and period‑appropriate proportion. The new joinery features crisp, traditional profiles, finished to harmonise with the new door. New stained glass panels were carefully reproduced from the originals, matching colour, texture and lead‑line rhythm so the glazing reads as a faithful continuation of the home’s historic character.
