Sash windows and bespoke arched joinery for a Barnes Conservation Area home

Located on Glebe Road in SW13, this period property sits within the Barnes Conservation Area and is designated as a building of townscape merit. With its Article 4 direction in place, any changes to external features required rigorous planning and architectural sensitivity – making it an ideal project for Sashed.

Working alongside Holloways of Ludlow, who introduced us as their trusted joinery partner, and interior designer Kati Tschawow of Kati Design, Sashed was appointed to manufacture, supply, and install all new sash windows throughout the property, as well as a bespoke rear door.

We also managed the entire windows and doors planning permission process, ensuring full compliance with conservation and planning requirements.

Ground floor: precision-crafted arched joinery

The ground floor required the recreation of a complex, arched sash window arrangement – a central architectural feature that demanded millimetre-level accuracy to match the original frame. This was not a standard specification, but a carefully executed piece of bespoke joinery that replicated heritage detailing while meeting modern performance expectations.

All sash windows on the ground floor were finished in white on both sides, preserving the home’s historic character and ensuring visual harmony with the original façade. To the rear, we also installed a single open-out door in the side extension, providing access to the garden and completing the rear elevation with a clean, functional design.

Ironmongery throughout was specified in polished chrome, offering a classic, high-quality finish suited to the property’s interior detailing.

First floor: light, privacy, and timeless design

On the upper floor, Sashed fitted sash windows to both the bedrooms and bathrooms. As with the ground floor, all windows were finished in white for a consistent, conservation-appropriate appearance.

For the W.C, frosted glazing was used to deliver privacy while still allowing natural light into the space – a simple, effective solution that complements the refined material palette throughout the home.

Trusted collaboration with Holloways of Ludlow and Kati Design

Sashed was proud to be introduced by Holloways of Ludlow as their preferred joinery partner – a relationship built on shared values of craftsmanship, reliability, and technical excellence. Working in tandem with Kati Design, we ensured that the new windows not only met planning requirements but also complemented the broader interior vision for the home.

Planning services handled in full

Given the property’s status within a Conservation Area and Article 4 designation, obtaining the necessary approvals was critical. Sashed handled all aspects of the planning application process, working closely with the local authority to ensure that every detail, particularly the arched window, met conservation standards.
