Sustainable timber windows and doors

Sustainability is at the core of everything we do. As a design led joinery company, we understand that consumers are increasingly focused on choosing products that are ethically made, environmentally responsible, and built to last. We’re committed to exceeding these expectations by using sustainable materials, minimising our environmental footprint, and maintaining a zero-waste policy.

Sashed’s green commitment

When it comes to the materials we use, we take no shortcuts. We proudly source only PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification) certified timbers for our windows and doors. This certification ensures that the timber we use comes from well-managed forests that prioritise sustainability, biodiversity, and responsible forestry practices. For every tree harvested, at least one is planted in its place, helping to support the cycle of healthy forests for future generations.

Sustainable forestry brings with it many benefits:

  • Protecting ecosystems: Helps preserve the balance of forest ecosystems, wildlife habitats, and surrounding environments.
  • Supporting local communities: Ensures good working conditions and fair pay for workers, while preserving the cultural heritage of indigenous peoples.
  • Tackling climate change: Offsets CO2 emissions generated during the manufacturing process and helps combat soil erosion and environmental degradation.
  • A legacy for the planet: By choosing sustainable timbers, we ensure that future generations will benefit from healthy forests, all while meeting the demands of modern living.

By using PEFC-certified timbers, we’re creating high-quality, long-lasting products that contribute positively to the environment and offer a lasting legacy of sustainability.

Sashed’s zero-waste policy

The nature of our work – crafting beautiful bespoke windows and doors – inevitably produces waste. But we take our environmental responsibility seriously. We have a zero-to-landfill policy through our partnership with a local waste management service. They help us recycle every bit of waste, from timber scraps to packaging, so nothing goes to waste.

We also handle our office waste through First Mile, a local waste company, ensuring that all business waste is recycled in an environmentally responsible manner. By choosing local waste management services, we reduce transportation emissions and help support the local economy, while minimising our contribution to London’s air pollution.

Paint the town green: eco-friendly finishes

When it comes to the finishes we use on our windows and doors, we’re committed to protecting both your health and the environment. We use only water-based paints and stains with low or minimal VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds). Unlike traditional oil-based paints, which can be harmful to both the atmosphere and your health, water-based paints are now proven to provide superior results without compromising on quality.
By switching to water-based finishes, we protect the environment, reduce air pollution, and ensure that your home remains safe and healthy. We believe that exceptional timber windows and doors don’t have to come at the expense of the planet.

A partnership with Ecologi

Sashed is proud to support reforestation efforts worldwide through our partnership with Ecologi, an environmental organisation tackling climate change through tree planting and verified carbon reduction projects. With every window or door we manufacture, we fund the planting of one tree in location where is will make the biggest difference, helping restore vital ecosystems, capture carbon, and support biodiversity. Each tree planted contributes to offsetting our carbon footprint and plays a part in building a more sustainable future – one that our customers directly support with every window and door we create. By only using water-based finishes, we protect the environment, reduce air pollution, and ensure that your home remains safe and healthy. We believe that exceptional timber windows and doors don’t have to come at the expense of the planet.

Our commitment to a sustainable future

At Sashed, sustainability isn’t just a buzzword – it’s a fundamental part of our ethos. From the sustainable timber we use to the way we manage waste, we are constantly striving to improve our environmental performance. Our zero-to-landfill commitment, use of eco-friendly finishes, and dedication to responsible sourcing reflect our ongoing efforts to create a greener future for everyone.

By choosing Sashed, you’re not just investing in high-quality, design led timber windows and doors; you’re supporting a business that is committed to reducing its environmental impact and leaving a positive legacy for the planet.
