Frequently
asked
questions

1) What is your typical lead time?

Our lead time on all products is eight weeks, we may be able to improve on eight weeks, but it depends on how busy we are. We will provide you with a lead time when you are ready to place an order, the lead time only begins once the Purchase Agreement has been returned signed and your deposit has been received. Our lead times vary throughout the year, most of our orders are fulfilled in under seven weeks, but in the summer lead times can stretch to 9 or 10 weeks.

2) Are your windows and doors fully compliant with building regulations?

Yes, our new windows and doors comply with Document L Building Regulations.

We can bring a selection of sample windows to you, at a place and time convenient to you, be it your home or place of work. You can see all our options up close and see any technical detail which is, of course, free of change. We do not have sales guys, so there’s no hard sell, just our great customer service.

8) What timber do you offer?

We offer both treated finger jointed pine, non-engineered pine (used for stained products) and meranti hardwood. See our wood type page for more details.

9) Can I have oak timber instead of pine or meranti?

The principal timbers we use are meranti and pine. Meranti is a hardwood which has a longer life than pine. Oak is usually selected when the windows are not spray painted and the customer would like to see the natural grain of oak, you can also choose not to have meranti or pine spray painted and instead opt for a natural or coloured varnish. We can supply oak but are unable to provide any list pricing, as the oak fluctuates in price too much. Please contact us to request special oak pricing. See our wood type page for more details.

10) What are your payment terms?

Unless expressly stated otherwise on the purchase order or quote, we require 50% payment upon order, the balance is due prior to delivery or fitting and any fitting services are payable when completed. We will send you an invoice well in advance of the delivery date, showing your deposit and the balance due. We accept all major debit and credit cards except American Express. Payment via cheque or bank transfer must clear our account prior to delivery.

11) Is my deposit independently insured?

Your deposit is insured by the Independent Warranty Association (IWA). Deposit insurnace is a requirement for membership to the FENSA scheme.

12) How long are your product guarantees?

Sashed provide ten years across the board on everything from wood & paint finishes to ironmongery & glazing – across all products which have been installed by Sashed. Supply only customers enjoy five years.

13) Is your guarantee backed by an insurance policy?

If you’re both buying products and having them installed by Sashed your guarantee is insured by the Independent Warranty Association (IWA) for the full ten years, at no cost to you. A copy of your guarantee and insurance policy to back the guarantee will be forwarded onto you when all work is complete and all our invoices are paid. Should you move, you can pass on your guarantee to the new homeowner. We keep records on our side too, so a new owner can get in touch and we’ll be able to verify details and update the guarantee.

14) Why are your windows so much lower in price than other manufacturers'?

We’ve applied technology to the process of making windows and doors and without compromising on quality we’ve cut down costs so we can pass the cost saving to you. We don’t have sales people on commission, we don’t have expensive showrooms, and we’ve reduced overheads and waste, all for the benefit of our customers. We’re doing things differently by bringing modern business practices to the traditional timber window and door industry.

15) Can you match my existing windows?

Sashed can usually match any existing windows. We just need pictures of the existing windows to kick the process off.

16) I want to replace my windows but live in a conservation area. Do I need permission?

This depends on a number for factors, like your property type (flat or hours). If you are replacing like for like, then you will usually be granted permission but you should speak to your local authority. Sashed deal with planning permission applications every day, we offer help and advice on this process for free, please contact us.
