Queen's Park conservation areas in the borough of Brent

The largest Brent council controlled conservation area covers the streets surrounding the park and stretches as far as Kensal Rise. Introduced in 1986, its purpose is to protect and enhance the special architectural and historic character of the area. Property in the Queen’s Park conservation area is subject to the 1990 Planning Act. Brent has also introduced additional protections known as Article 4 Directions, which usually means you need planning permission to change your windows. If you’re in the Queen’s Park conservation area you can replace your old windows and doors with new ‘like for like in material and appearance’ windows, and you will usually need planning permission. We are happy to answer any questions about your specific property over the phone, please feel free to call us for a chat or see our guide for full details on conservation area planning rules.

Thinking of change to uPVC? Here’s what Brent council have to say:

Replacement of timber windows with PVCu* is not acceptable. It has been found that PVCu is unable to replicate the intricate detail and character of original timber or steel windows. Also, the Council discourages PVCu as its manufacturing process is highly polluting and it is difficult to dispose of.

Queen's Park Conservation Area Plan

There is a neighbouring conservation area called the Paddington Cemetery conservation area, which is not subject to any Article 4 Directions which usually means you do NOT need planning permission to change your windows and doors with new ‘like for like in material and appearance’ windows. See our guide for full details on conservation area planning rules.

The Queen's Park Estate conservation area in the city of Westminster

Westminster City Council first designated the Queen’s Park Estate as a Conservation Area in 1978. Covering all of the properties in ‘The Avenues’ the conservation area was extended in 1991 to include the Harrow Road Library and some of the buildings alongside the Grand Union Canal.

The Queen’s Park Conservation Area also has 53 Grade II Listed properties; these include all the houses on Fifth Avenue between Ilbert Street and Kilburn Lane. These houses are subject to additional listed building restrictions.

Sashed have several years’ experience and a 100% success rate in gaining planning permission to replace windows with the Westminster planning authority. See our guide for full details on conservation area planning rules. We pride ourselves on being the Sash Window Specialists in Queen’s Park.
