All new timber windows and doors – Surbiton

“We ordered windows and doors for the whole house (23 in total) made to meet the very stringent guidelines of our conservation area. The job was complex and required a ruthless attention to detail all of which Sashed handled really well. The order turned up on-time, on budget and the fitters worked hard to make sure everything was perfect.”

The issue

Mr and Mrs James were undertaking extensive refurbishment of their home in a conservation area in Surbiton, which included an extension and replacing all of the windows and doors. The existing windows were a mixture of original and replacement windows, some were poor fitting, others were broken or single glazed. The original parts of the house date back to 1850, and under the requirements of the conservation area, all the replacement windows had to be like for like in appearance and made from timber rather than aluminium or uPVC.

The solution

In all, 23 double glazed windows and doors were manufactured in finger-jointed (engineered) pine for the project. The casement windows, French doors, and bi-folding doors included astragal glazing bars to replicate the look of the old windows and doors. The glazing was 24mm (4/16Ar/4) Argon filled double glazing. The whole project was completed within 10 man days. As there was extensive building work going on, Mr and Mrs James were able to save on the window fitting costs by choosing to have ‘building site’ fitting, which meant that their own builders would do the finishing at an appropriate point during the refurbishment.

The result

The new double glazed windows and doors have improved the appearance and the security of the house and also made this Victorian house much warmer and quieter while retaining the original features of the facade. Commenting on the project, Mr James said, “It was a pleasure to work with Sashed, any issues were dealt with quickly and professionally and I have no qualms about recommending Sam and the team to anyone. It’s great to work with a growing business who focuses on getting everything right and making customer satisfaction a priority. The end result is a stunning addition to our refurbishment project, the quality of the windows and doors really stands out as you walk past the house.”
